How do i get brown hair dye out of red hair?

i dyed my hair black with a sort of semi-permanent dye about 3 months ago and had been using a colour protecting shampoo.

it has since faded to a dark brown, but i want to get the remaining colour out so that i can dye my hair purple.

i have heard of many methods such as stripping the hair, but it sounds painful, expensive and bad for the hair.

are there any home remedies for my situation?

any ideas are much appreciated.

If you wash your hair with liquid dish soap, I hear it strips the color out. I haven't tried this, but last summer I had the most horrible results from a box-dye job %26amp; my mothers friend, who has her own salon, suggested it. It may take a few washes till you get what your looking for.

She also warned that it can really dry out %26amp; yuck your hair up so after you get the results your looking for, moisturize like crazy!!

i had this happen to me befor, if you dont strik it like take all the dye at ( have to go to a professional hair place to do that) you just keep on washing your hair like every day and soon it will fade and wash out!

Or, go to a really good beautician and get him/her to do it. (May cost you, but it is worth it.) I have seen some color strip jobs go very, very wrong.
