Hair dye doesn't work on my hair!?

My hair is naturally dirty blonde. A year ago I dyed it dark brown and have dyed it brown 3 times after to keep the color. Now, ( 3 months after the last time I dyed me hair) I want to go back to blonde. I have tried 3 blonde hair dyes, but none of them work on my hair. I've tried leaving them in for longer, but I always end up with the exact same color as I had before. (which is a light brown)

So, if I bleached my hair first, and THEN dyed it the medium blonde I want, would that work?

Please don't tell me to go to a salon, I can't afford it.

I'm going to a salon and having highlights put over the brown so the dirty blonde can grow back in.

Since you can't afford it though, I suggest L'oreal ColorZap. It will remove ALL the color from your hair, leaving it white-ish after an application or two, then you can dye your hair with a good quality dye, such as Herbal Essence or L'oreal.

Make sure to do a test on a lock of hair first with both the ColorZap and the dye so you know what the actual outcome will be.

How hard is this concept to grasp? COLOR DOES NOT LIFT COLOR! If you want to lighten hair that has been darkened YOU HAVE TO BLEACH! Yes, it will work if you do it right. Blonde dye does not dye dark hair, it dyes lightened hair. It's like coloring over a black crayon. It's gonna look disgusting or it's not going to do anything. You HAVE to bleach it. YOU HAVE TO! Blonde hair dye is not like other dyes, and takes on NOTHING BUT prelightened hair.

strip the color from your hair with a booster(you can buy this

at a drug-store or hair product store), it must be stripped to

white(no-color), then purchase any color dye you want, and

when you dye it, sit under the dryer for about 25-30. If place

a plastic bag over your head and hold a hand dryer for about

25-30 minutes GOOD LUCK

see what you get for not going to a salon?? you could have gone once for the cost of 3 boxes of hair color. I grew up in a salon.. now that it's dark, your most likely to turn orange if you start using lighter blonde colors in hair color. YOU NEED TO GO TO A SALON AND HAVE A WEAVE done using bleach. Don't use a color stripper for all the times you've dyed your hair now if u used a color stripper you may not have hair left! meaning it will break off from being fried. You need to condiotion it as well and don't use crap shampoo and conidtioner form the store, salon quality products cost more but work better.
