i've dyed my hair 3 times [ not including highlights when i was younger] . i dyed it black last novemeber and haven't dyed it since. well until today. i chose a light golden brown color and i used two bottles because i have very thick hair and one bottle just doesn't do it. well my mom did it for me because i know i would miss spots, i waited the amount of time like always. and well only my roots got it. it looks like if i took a brush and only dyed certain sections!! it didn't even CHANGE the black, its still BLACK!!! please help. i dont know what went wrong. everyone said that when i dyed it black it would be very hard to go lighter. i didnt believe them.. now i do!! please help! i need advice. i need to change this before i go back to school on aug.20!!
Hair dye didn't work!! help!!?
Since your hair was really dark, you cannot use a lighter color to lighten it. The ONLY thing that will lighten it is bleach. So you need to get your hair highlighted professionally. Hair color never lifts over haircolor. That's just the way it works. So, go to a salon and have them put highlights in. You are going to just have to wait for the other color to either grow out or fade out. But having highlights will overall make it look lighter. Good luck

What you need to do is bleach it and than dye it the color that you want and it will work
Hair dye didn't work!! help!!?
go to a salon %26amp; ask them to "strip your hair"
that will just let them start over %26amp; you'll be able to basically dye it any color you want.

Your best bet is to go to a salon and have it fixed. Color..no matter how light the color is will not lift previous color. Only bleach or a color remover will do that. There are some products that licensed stylists can get that won't damage your hair to badly, but it is going to be really hard to get that out.

You can't dye over black dyed hair. There are usually warnings on the packs. And that color probably wouldn't even work on natural black hair. Common sense. Color doesn't lift color. Bleach does. Go to a salon or bleach your hair and dye it again.

The best thing to do would be to go to a salon. They need to do corrective color which tends to be expensive...if you want to do it yourself you might risk damaging it doing it this way but what I did for my friend when she did this was I used color remover (they sell it at walmart) and then just dyed over it. Go with a medium brown because it will fade.

go to the hairdressers to get your hair stripped. other than that you should try a product that has harsher chemicals in it that will lighten hair a few shades as you colour. most permanent dyes should work. i use feria (sp?)

I am so sorry to hear that!
K, well, obviously, the pigment in the black dye has adhered to your strands so well that your hair has actually absorbed it as its natural color. The only reason why your roots were the only areas that the golden brown color seemed to have covered was because the roots were the only part that had not been dyed black when you had colored your hair back in november. So, with that being said, no home remedy can be used to fix this problem. I am telling this to you now, before you waste any more money, time, and energy trying to fix this problem yourself - that you need to see a professional. No matter what kind of advice you receive on this site, please, don't get another box and try redying, and don't purchase shampoos or make your own shampoos that will supposedly strip the color out of your hair, because it will only damage it. Consult a professional hairstylist/ colorist if you really want this fixed by august 20. This problem has gone past a DIY repair.
Sorry but this is the truth

Hair dye didn't work!! help!!?
first go to the store and by a hair dye that lighter but made for people who have black hair. you have to work in steps to get it lighter. one shade at a time, you can probally do it in 2-3 hair dyes. don't dye you're hair all through the shades tonight. You're going to have to wait a couple of months or you're hair will start falling out if you dye it too much. good luck.

i love when ppl come to me to fix things like this..it's so friggin fun!..anyways..if you dont want to sit in the chair for a long time an wait for the powder lightener (bleach) to lighten your hair..call salons around n ask if they use JOICO color. they should use the veroULTRA caramel series since you wanted golden brown. joico hair color actually keeps ur hair healthy %26amp; doesn't damage it. ok so if you do get it bleached dont let them make it blonde like anna nicole blonde bc for golden brown they should only let the color lift that much.
