dw i literally did this 1 week ago and just went to the hairdressers and had it stripped out and redyed to my natural colour honestly this is the only way to go do not try and strip ur hair at home it will go orange.

Try going to the hairdresser and asking about it. Or, just dye your hair your natural colour and keep that until it grows completely out. Never use permanent dye....especially not black..... wash in wash out stuff is better.

You can either have it stripped, but its pretty hard on the hair, OR, you can dye it back to your normal color.

do NOT dye your hair anymore, it wont change the color at all, it will just damage your hair. your only option is to get the black dye stripped off before you color it again, so go to a reputable salon and make sure the hair colorist knows what theyre doing bc stripping can damage your hair further

I've never done this but I've heard that you can use Prell shampoo and it will strip it out of your hair...

I used to have my hair dyed black with permanent dye about 2 years ago. It is possible to get the colour stripped out, but this is incredibly damaging to your hair. While you could try to dye it back to your natural colour, I doubt this would help much as you'd be hard pressed to find a dye that will actually dye the black if you see what I mean. I went for the long and arduous option of letting my hair grow out the dye naturaly, and i've only just managed to get all of the black out of my hair..so if you're going to do this, just be prepared to wait a long time to get the colour out and also to have huge roots for quite a while.

Last time i dyed mine black, to change it i bleached it first then put another colour over the top. It worked fine, but you had probably better ask a proffesional hairdresser first, just in case.

I would reccomend going to a hair dresser, this is a lot of work, especially if your hair is long.

It will have to be stripped, bleached, filled and toned, or if you don't totally hate the black, you can get a serious ton of highlights to blend it away a bit, which will probably be cheaper and easier on your hair.

Seriously, don't even try it at home, as much as it will cost at the hair dressers now, if you try to fix it yourself, you will likely fail, damage your hair and incurr even more costs when you finally do go to the hairdresser.

Also, using cheap drug store bleach to try to remove it can actually "Shock" the color and make it impossible to remove from your hair.

Always think twice when going dark, and try to stick to semi's. Also, when touching up color, just do the roots and work it through the rest for the last 5 minutes for a refresher. This will prevent a build up of color which can be seriously hard to get out.

Never use Henna based colors, as even bleach won't get rid of them.

And no....to some of those who have answered here, you cannot just dye it back to your natural color. You will end up with colored roots and black hair everywhere else.

And no...it is not as simple as simply bleaching it and then dying it back. The bleach must be applied in stages, not just all over all at once, and after bleaching you are stripping underlying pigments, so the blond will not go blond, the brown will not go brown and the red will not go red, you need to build the colors back into your hair after bleaching. Even if you are lucky enough to get a tolerable color, it will not stay well and you have damaged the cuticle of the hair.

PS To Chole....anything that will lighten your hair will damage it...the process of lightening it is to open the cuticle (which is damage) and remove or destroy pigment molecules. Any thing that is made for highlighting is actually more damaging than less, as a general rule.

Do not. Do not. Do not. Do not try to fix this all by yourself. As a former salon worker, and former hair dye junkie allow me to help you help yourself: get thee to the salon.

It will *probably* cost a bit of change, and your hair will most likely have to be stripped. You may not immediately end up with the hair color you most desire, but something close to it. It takes a few dyes after removing a dark color to get it just right; but you will at least have hair that looks good.

I have tried removing hair color by going back to my natural color via dyeing all by myself. I knew better at the time, and ignored my own advice. Sigh. I had to go to work with green (nasty poopy green) hair for two days before I could get into the salon. It ended up costing way more money than initially just going to the salon, because I had to get a color correction as well.

Go to a hairdresser. It's likely you'll need to use a bleach bath to take out the black, so it's best to see a professional. Putting your natural colour over the top will likely do nothing as tint doesn't lift tint. It'd only make it harder to get the black out as the second colour would probably re-enforce it!

You can have the color stripped out,which is harsh or as it grows,trim it off. Don't put anymore color on top of it because it will not work.

you need to go 2 the hairdressers and ask them to put a colour remover though your hair, this will (obviously) remove the colour but it will knacker your hair and it may not return (straight away)to your natural colour as it is a form of bleach.

you cant reali put another dye over the top of this black as black is black (if ya no wot i mean). plus colour will not lift another colour.
