Okay so my hair is naturally light brown and I dyed it dark brown a while back. Now I want to go back to a light/medium brown again. I used very light brown hair dye today and my roots changed drastically but the rest of my hair has barely done so. I can't really afford to get it professionally done right now so I need a way to fix it at home preferably. Will it make any difference if I dye the rest of it (excluding roots)?
Tried to dye dark brown hair lighter... help?
be very careful here. Adding chemical on top of chemicals will leave you with a head full of straw. Before you did the last dye job you should have used a lightener or color stripper first. Always read those labels on the products you buy. Most tell you what color you will end up with depending on what you start with. Follow direction and condition your hair often between. My daughter is a hair dyer and I never know what color she will come home with but she is absolutely anal about conditioning, gently combing, following directions, etc.

Hi!
I'm not a beautician, but I had a friend who is African American who dyed her hair a blonde color. What she did was go to the beauty supply store and purchased something called a "lifter" that kind of strips your hair of the color that it is so that the new lighter color can be absorbed by your hair. She mixed it together with a gentle shampoo and left it on for a while ( I'm not sure how long). She then washed it out and applied the new color to her hair. Since you just applied the light brown hair dye, I would wait a while before I would try it again. You don't want to end up bald or have big chunks of hair missing, right? Check what I said with the ladies at the beauty supply stores because they are usually people who have gone through beauty school. I hope this helps.

You can't dye your hair with a lighter color, when you first dyed it with a darker one.
It's not gonna stick because light colors don't ever cover dark colors.
Especially when they're made with chemicals...there's no way out.
The best thing you can do is leave your hair as it is, if the different color of the root and the rest of your hair doesn't show too much, or dye it how you did the first time and wait till it grows out or you can afford to have it done professionaly, if you want your color back.
