Is anyone else allergic to hair dye?

Every time I dye my hair, I have an allerigic reaction, apparently to the dye. I've dyed my hair twice, and when I do my scalp swells up, and itches very bad. The last time I dyed it my left eye was swollen shut, and I had to go to the emergancy room. I was just wondering if anyone else knew someone with this problem, or any alternitive hair dyes that might work for me?

Millions of people throughout the world are allergic to hair dye. If I remember right the boxes have it where you are supposed to do a spot test on your arm or somewhere to see if you are allergic to it prior to doing it. I would recommend not dying your hair anymore because that allergy isn't going to go away and it is very bad for your health (and hair). Be proud of who you naturally are. The only alternative thing that might work at all would be henna, but you better be wanting reddish hair.

I am allergic to any hair coloring that contains Ammonia. It burns my scalp and my hair falls out. ALWAYS do the skin test that is advised with ALL hair coloring. If there is any reaction at all( burning, itching, redness) don't use it. Very dangerous!

Very! Even most 'all natural' hair dyes from the health store cause a reaction with me. I also have had to deal with hospital visits and swollen red skin because I was hoping to cover my grey and 'look better'.

I can use the Henna hair dye from the health store; the product line in the blue and white box. It doesn't cover grey that well, but it is better than nothing. Smells and looks a little like goose poop, but you can use it at home, it is cheap, and no matter how long you leave it in (1 1/2 hours once) no reaction.

well, sry to say this but our bodies are not made for that kind of stuff. it affects everyone differently. and hair dyes do cause cancer too! your supposed to test a hair dye on your arm first to see if there will be an allergic reaction, but really, that doesnt always work cause our scalps are alot more sensitive. i for one am allergic to just about anything. and when ever i dye my hair sometimes i will get like, pains in my head for a few days to a week. so thats why i dont really dye my hair anymore but i do get it highlighted. you might want to try that because it doesnt go on your scalp but it dyes your hair. so i would try that if i were you. but also why does people always have to dye their hair? blondes want to be brunets and brunets want to be blondes. everyone was made to look a certain way, because we all have a certain somebody that we are supposed to be with. and changing our looks all the time kind of defeats that purpose. i mean not everyone has to look like britney spears to be liked. after all, everyone is pretty in their own way. lol im just getting off the topic a little arent i? but yeah you might want to cunsult a doctor or a dermatologist and talk to them about what things you can use on your hair and good luck!
