I really want to get my hair dyed black right now it is light brown. But my friend got her hair dyed black and it came out purple. Is there a way to keep that from happening? Or does it only do that on certain types/colors of hair? Or should I get a certain shade of black to keep that from happening? Someone please help me! :(

The tints you buy in retail stores are made with cheaper products than what is available to professionals. These products are made with metallic salts that often "throw" (meaning they wind up showing the color of the base metal instead of the color they were mixed to create) to odd colors, such as your friends purple experience. I have seen that often. Common results are green and purple. Have a professional help you with tinting your hair, especially to black. Black is the hardest color to get out of your hair, so be sure it's what you want to commit yourself to for at least the next year or two.

I don't know. When I dyed my hair blue/black or just the normal black, I got the Garnier Fructisse one. Try that.

Dont go Black. Go like a dark brown. I dyed my hair black once, and yes it turned out almost purple. I left it that way for a couple of weeks. I didn't know what to do, I thought it looked awful. Then this girl told me to wash it in Tide detergent. Would you believe that almost all of it came out even after two weeks?

1st of all determine your base color(red gold green blue) then look for a color that is not going to inhance that color so if your base is red you choose a ash if its ash choose red. then you never use black cuz its to harsh choose very dark brown it looks better (211 wella color charm) then have fun

baby girl dont dye your hair black!! its SO hard to get away from.. later on you'll have to strip your hair, and that will damage it so badly.i suggest that you do a level 2 or 3 dark brown..if you have more questions ask me, i know some people dont know as much about that, and thats what makes home hair dyes go bad! please do not dye your hair black. go with a dark brown, and it will be dark enough for you, i promise. you wont have all the complications as you would if you were to play with black. but find a neutral base level 2 or 3 dark brown. if you decide to try black, good luck!

Both of what you mentioned are true. There are many shades of black some bluer, some browner. Also hair color makes a huge difference. For instance if you had blonde hair and you tried to die it black it would come out blue. Another thing is if you have previous dye in your hair. Decide on what color you're going for than look on the side of the box (unless you're getting it done professionaly in which case you have nothing to worry about) and it should have diff. shades of hair and what the dye will look like on them.

should go to a hair salon and as one of the stylist have them do right on ask question to prevent it from turning another color

Keep your nice light brown hair. Don't dye it that awful dead looking soul-less, life-less dead black that doesn't even have highlights. You won't be able to wash it out. Growing your own nice hair back will take so long. No one looks good in dyed black hair . Women who have it naturally look good in it.. The black dye is dead dismal.
