Do you dye your hair yourself or have it done at a salon?

Is there any major difference between the two. I was considering getting my hair dyed at a salon, but salons charge quite a lot. Can i achieve the same results if i just dye my hair myself.

i do mine at home have done for years and i really dont see the differece get a pal to do it first time so you dont miss any but other than that its all the same dye really

you should get a friend that is good at dying peoples hair. the salon is better because they know what their doing...but its pretty easy and cost way less if you do it yourself.

As long as you do it correctly, it's a much better investment to do it yourself. Maybe, if you don't think you could do it, I'm sure you could find a friend or someone you know personally that can do it. Salon's charge too much, and the result isn't much better if you have it done by someone who knows what they're doing, but isn't a proffessional. If you think you could do it, give it a shot!

I have done both. I was much happier with the salon results. Plus, if you mess up your hair, you only have yourself to blame. If the salon messes it up, they will fix it for you (usually/hopefully) at no cost.

Most salons use brands of hair dye like Redken and the like. They charge such a large price based on the time it takes. I've dyed my hair for the last four years and everyone thinks I get it done professionally. The only real difference between salons and home dying is what you have available to you at your nearest convenience.

If you have never done it before I would say that you should go to the salon. It is very hard to do it yourself if you have longer hair.

If you want to experiment I would try but have the money handy in case there is a diseaster

My mum does all my hair - highlights and all and people are always shocked when they find out its not natural - granted she was a hair dresser years ago.

You have be careful doing it yourself - just remember when choosing a colour it will always come out darker then it says on the box so go a shade lighter from the one you want - ie if you want dark brown chose a fairly light one.

Salon every 3 months. Yeah its the way to go, at-home hair color isnt the best. It will ruin your hair and make it dull. I would suggest going to a salon if its worth it to you to have beautiful hair.

I never had time to get to the salon to get my roots done so now I use Nice %26amp; Easy (103) its fab!

If you are going more than 2 shades either lighter or darker from your normal color, get it done at a salon. The people at the salon have stronger products and can get you the color you want. The boxed hair dye never comes out the way it does on the box and is a hit and a miss. If its a drastic change (more than 2 shades), get it done professionally. If its with in 2 shades of your current color, you can do it yourself. Have fun and good luck!

i do mine a lot mostly black with some colored streaks..there is a differnce the store dye tears your hair up a lil more..but either way your doin it damaged....if you do it yourself make sure you dont miss a spot or have someone to help you..i had a friend who dyed hers blond and forgot a spot in the back..it can be very embrassing!!

I have always dyed my hair at home until recently when I was on holiday and decided to treat myself and get my hair dyed at a salon. It was definately worth it. It looked so much better and lasted so much longer. Pricey but worth it!

once i dyed my hair blond and my roots turn all different kinds of colors like red and blond and brown so i would say to do it at a good salon that you can trust!

I did it myself, did a darn good job! No mistakes! I used Feria. Now, I did a quick turnaround and am more for the environment! Save the drinking water supply for human consumption and salmon and other aquamarine life.

i always dye my own hair screw payin a hair salon to do it, but i wouldn`t recommend getting adventurous and trying to put highlights or anything like that and stick to the instructions on the box ,

don`t do it if the box says its not suitable 4 ur hair colour it will either not come out ,wastin time and money or will come out lookin terrible,,, ..maybe even get a mate 2 do it for u :)

i dye my hair quite a lot and i always do it myself, mainly because it is cheaper quicker and gets u the same results, on the other hand it can be a bit messy and u will have to throw out the towel u use to dry it as it will also b dyed, my advice though is to do it yourself, good luck hope this helps,

The professional color is better quality, but you can still get good effects at home. I considered going to a salon, but decided that paying $50 for something that would have to be touched up every month or so really wasn't worth it and bought myself some Revlon. It looks pretty darn good.

I have done both. I think really it all depends on your hair type. Mine is really fine and thin so by doing it at home, it doesn't last as long or turn out how I want it. But if you have thinker hair then really the only difference is at a salon you are just paying for better color coverage and better color in general.

Uhm..I get my hair dyed or highlighted by my Dad, so i wouldnt kno..i never really have gotten mine down from A salon. try having ur dad or move. Or if your 20 or 18 or so. Have one of ur friends do it for you.

I would suggest going to a salon. They are able to match colors better and you will have a more consistent reliable result. Also there are so many additives in home dyes that you may not always get the same result. What came out brown the first time may come out green the next. If you are looking for a cheaper way to get your hair done in a salon setting I would suggest finding your local hair school. The girls are in training but usually very good for very little cost. they are supervised by professional stylists. I am a stylist and when I was in school it cost about fifteen dollars to get an all over color. And as someone else said if they mess it up they will fix it for free. I dye my hair myself all the time and have no problems.

If you are a student why not try out the college hairdressing department or trainee nights at salons. The trainees are watched constantly it may take a lot long that it usually would, its worth considering.

Colours that you get in the shops are just one basic colour at a salon they will basically mix the colour to exactly what you are wanting.

Highlights are more difficult to acheive and get then even when doing it yourself, it takes a lot of practice.
