!Hair Dye, Allergic Reactions!?

Hi,

Im getting highlights next week, and in the next few months im thinking fo colouring my hair completely. I saw on GMTV this morning that girl that died her hair and without knowing she was allergic to the product, she got a reaction. I want to use these products but not have no reaction, what are the safest ways to go about avoiding bad products and reactions to chemicals in the dye's. Any information will be very helpful.

In the salon, we do a small patch test if we suspect a client may have sensitive skin. Highlights won't be a problem, because the product doesn't usually touch the scalp. If you're worried, test a small bit of the color on your wrist( if you're doing it at home) or ask your stylist to . I've been a hairstylist for 11 years and have only had one person who was allergic to the color. It's very rare. Store bought haircolor is not as high quality as professional color, but millions of people use it, and I've never heard of anyone having a skin reaction. If you're having this done in a salon, just voice your concerns, and they'll probably do a patch test first.

I would only recomend reading the label on the box before using it. Because every different color contains their little secrets.

The dye for highlights is brushed on and separated by foils so there is not much contact between the dye and your scalp.

As for all over color, talk to your colorist about having a patch test beforehand if you're worried.
