any recommendations for brands of drug-store hair dye that will actually lighten my dark brown hair? I've tried a few brands already, but they usually only lighten my hair one shade. I'm looking for something more dramatic, but I dont have time to go to the salon.

You need to be really careful when lightening your hair at home. If your hair is really dark, you will most likely end up with dried out orange hair. I can't reccommend any drug store color. Sorry. I would suggest setting aside two hours to go to a salon, where you can get exactly what you are looking for.

Get bleach. It'll ruin your hair, and dry it out very much..so get a crap load of conditioner.. If that's what you want, platnium..bleach is the only way to go.
