Is there any major difference between the two. I was considering getting my hair dyed at a salon, but salons charge quite a lot. Can i achieve the same results if i just dye my hair myself.

Maybe, if you don't think you could do it, I'm sure you could find a friend or someone you know personally that can do it. Salon's charge too much, and the result isn't much better if you have it done by someone who knows what they're doing, but isn't a proffessional. If you think you could do it, give it a shot!

I've dyed my hair for the last four years and everyone thinks I get it done professionally. The only real difference between salons and home dying is what you have available to you at your nearest convenience.

You have be careful doing it yourself - just remember when choosing a colour it will always come out darker then it says on the box so go a shade lighter from the one you want - ie if you want dark brown chose a fairly light one.

The people at the salon have stronger products and can get you the color you want. The boxed hair dye never comes out the way it does on the box and is a hit and a miss. If its a drastic change (more than 2 shades), get it done professionally. If its with in 2 shades of your current color, you can do it yourself. Have fun and good luck!

Do you dye your hair yourself or have it done at a salon? i do mine a lot mostly black with some colored streaks..there is a differnce the store dye tears your hair up a lil more..but either way your doin it damaged....if you do it yourself make sure you dont miss a spot or have someone to help you..i had a friend who dyed hers blond and forgot a spot in the back..it can be very embrassing!!

Do you dye your hair yourself or have it done at a salon? i always dye my own hair screw payin a hair salon to do it, but i wouldn`t recommend getting adventurous and trying to put highlights or anything like that and stick to the instructions on the box ,
don`t do it if the box says its not suitable 4 ur hair colour it will either not come out ,wastin time and money or will come out lookin terrible,,, ..maybe even get a mate 2 do it for u :)

Do you dye your hair yourself or have it done at a salon? i dye my hair quite a lot and i always do it myself, mainly because it is cheaper quicker and gets u the same results, on the other hand it can be a bit messy and u will have to throw out the towel u use to dry it as it will also b dyed, my advice though is to do it yourself, good luck hope this helps,

I considered going to a salon, but decided that paying $50 for something that would have to be touched up every month or so really wasn't worth it and bought myself some Revlon. It looks pretty darn good.

Mine is really fine and thin so by doing it at home, it doesn't last as long or turn out how I want it. But if you have thinker hair then really the only difference is at a salon you are just paying for better color coverage and better color in general.

Also there are so many additives in home dyes that you may not always get the same result. What came out brown the first time may come out green the next. If you are looking for a cheaper way to get your hair done in a salon setting I would suggest finding your local hair school. The girls are in training but usually very good for very little cost. they are supervised by professional stylists. I am a stylist and when I was in school it cost about fifteen dollars to get an all over color. And as someone else said if they mess it up they will fix it for free. If you are a student why not try out the college hairdressing department or trainee nights at salons. The trainees are watched constantly it may take a lot long that it usually would, its worth considering.
Colours that you get in the shops are just one basic colour at a salon they will basically mix the colour to exactly what you are wanting.
Highlights are more difficult to acheive and get then even when doing it yourself, it takes a lot of practice.
